The Transiidikeskuse (Transit Centre) Group was founded in Estonia in 1996 with the objective of providing high-quality transit trading services. With that aim in mind several different and complimentary operator companies have been affiliated into the group.
The heart of the group is in the Transiidikeskuse Ltd, set up with its own equity capital. In addition to the parent company it comprises six subsidiaries. Five of these are stevedoring companies operating in the port which directly work with transit cargoes, the rest of the group subsidiaries support and assist the stevedoring companies or are linked to them technologically.
In 1996 Transiidikeskuse Ltd won the rental tender set up by the Tallinn Port for the Muuga Port refrigeration centre. In order to operate the centre Transiidikeskus founded its first subsidiary Refetra Ltd. Stevedoring was started on January 1, 1997. This is the largest cold strorage facility in Estonia which allows the concurrent storage of 13500 tons frozen goods.
In 1998 Transiidikeskuse Ltd acquired 85% of the stock of Ferry Terminal Ltd, set up in November 1992. Thus was born the Muuga Containerterminal – Muuga CT. It was the first among the former Soviet Union Baltic sea ports to start utilising mobile cranes (1999) and multitrailertrains (2001) in harbor-transport container transshipment. Since 1999 Muuga CT is the major container processing operator in the Tallinn Port.
In October 1999 Varumees Ltd was set up within the Transiidikeskuse Ltd framework to improve and compact the transit service of various goods by focusing on the mediation of qualified harbour labor.
Transiidikeskuse Group envisions its future first and foremost in the enlargement and development of business contacts with the closest neighbours - the Scandinavian and the Baltic countries. Within the framework of the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea transport channel we are anticipating increase in the volume of cargo transported from Russia, Kasakstan, the Ukraine, Byelorussia and China.
